Pelvic Floor Dyssynergia
Condition Overview
Pelvic floor dyssynergia refers to the inability to coordinate your pelvic floor muscles properly during a bowel movement. Typically, your pelvic floor muscles need to relax in order to fully empty stool from the rectum. In patients with pelvic floor dyssynergia, the muscles may actually contract and tighten instead of relaxing leading to incomplete emptying, constipation, straining, and rectal pain.
